3 card poker is an American version of a British game called Brag.  It began about 300 years ago as Primero, a fast-moving betting game using three cards.  It then became Post-and-Pair, Brag, in the U.S. as Casino Brag and Brit-Brag, and finally it became known as 3 card poker.
